DEBATE: IS ABORTION EVER RIGHT, AND SHOULD THE LEGAL LIMIT BE LOWERED?

Abortion is very dependent on circumstances, but the question is when an embryo turns into a child as they will suffer too through the rejection.

IS ABORTION EVER RIGHT, AND SHOULD THE LEGAL LIMIT BE LOWERED?

Principle of Sanctity of Life: God not humans end life whether before or after birth

The Catholic Trust Society greatly opposes abortion: “We have been created by the almighty God in his own image and likeness. No pregnancy is unplanned because no baby can be conceived unless almighty God intends that conception and the existence will occur.” The Catholic Trust says that the conception of baby is due to the will of God and a human being has no right to kill that baby, it is ethically unacceptable and morally wrong.

Every person has a right to life. So the foetus has a right to life. No doubt the mother has a right to decide what shall happen in and to her body; everyone would grant that. But surely a person’s right to life is stronger and more stringent than the mother’s right to decide what happens in and to her body, and so outweighs it which defends abortion as the mother is of more importance.

Helps further the cause of Eugenics for disabled people rather than Equality

Pro-choice say that they see abortion as a last resort and focus on a number of situations where they feel abortion is a necessary option. Among theses situations are those where the woman was raped, her health or life (or that of the foetus) is at risk, contraception was used but failed, or she feels unable to raise a child.

Birth control fails

About 85% of abortions come about because of the failure of contraception. If this is the case, then the rule should be that abortion will be provided on demand but only if the woman agrees to be sterilised at the same time (or spayed). Given that the Pill is pretty well 100% effective if taken daily (which it usually isn't!) and the Mirena coil has had fewer failures than tubal ligation, I think the Dept. of Health needs to look seriously at why, in the 21st Century are women still getting pregnant "by accident".

As for the time limit, the usual one in France is 10 weeks but in the USA most abortions take place at 12 weeks by D&C, which is least likely to fail. The normal time limit needs to be set in accordance to the method normally used. If it were possible to bring about an abortion by chemical means within 28 days, then that should be the normal limit.

The Mother is the only person involved in the decision, as it is important. The Mother should talk to herr family to see if she has support. Abortion is there to stop unwanted children coming into the world. A child should not be a mistake.

The woman's right to choose is paramount. Religious theory is built upon a mostly male dominated or patriarchal societal view and particularly when it comes to on the rights to women. The sanctity of life would be argued to be if not a fiction

Pro life charities argue that having an abortion is opposite to treatment of all people as equal. This is because it places a lower value than and promotes a societies view as seeing it as expendable . Currently between 60% and 90% of downs syndrome foetuses are terminated rather than being allowed to develop the chance to live their lives. This is partly because of entrenched medical model attitudes and expectations that see disability as something to be eliminated rather than as something to be treated as an equal condition.
