DEBATE: FACEBOOK'S TERMS OF SERVICE (TOS) SHOULD BE CHANGED BACK

Facebook's terms of service (TOS) used to say that when you closed an account on their network, any rights they claimed to the original content you uploaded would expire. Not anymore. Now, anything you upload to Facebook can be used by Facebook in any way they deem fit, forever, no matter what you do later. Want to close your account? Good for you, but Facebook still has the right to do whatever it wants with your old content. They can even sublicense it if they want.Is it right that fb should have rights to your info, *forever*?

FACEBOOK'S TERMS OF SERVICE (TOS) SHOULD BE CHANGED BACK

Fb should not have the right to store information about you when your account has been deleted.

Fb accounts contain personal information and images. These are visible to who you choose for them to be visible to while you have an account, but why should this extend until after you have closed it?

If you retain the info, then please give me my account back!

FACEBOOK'S TERMS OF SERVICE (TOS) SHOULD BE CHANGED BACK

Changing the TOS after they've been agreed upon requires a new commitment to the agreement

When Terms of Service are agreed upon, both parties validate the text provided at the time of sign up. Even if the user merely glances over the TOS, or doesn't read them at all, the agreement is to the text provided at that time.

For FB to simply change the agreement without letting current users opt-in to the new agreement is morally, if not legally wrong.

Now, I hesitate on that last point because I'm not sure of FB's legal ability to change the TOS when they choose. Based on this action it seems they are allowed to do this. But that doesn't mean they should.

FB should renew the agreement with its current users to change their ownership stance on the assets we provide.

FACEBOOK'S TERMS OF SERVICE (TOS) SHOULD BE CHANGED BACK

Freedom of speech/expression don't BIG BROTHER me

My account is disabled.I'm not happy. It's really pointless. I can always get another email addy and account in the meanwhile.

FACEBOOK'S TERMS OF SERVICE (TOS) SHOULD BE CHANGED BACK

If you dont want them to have it, don't give it to them

Why is there an 'only friends' option, when your friends AND the entire facebook team can/do look? It's pure deception, people are given a false sense of security and are then called 'stupid'

Anyone stupid enough to post private information and images in the public domain deserves to lose thier rights over this info.

FACEBOOK'S TERMS OF SERVICE (TOS) SHOULD BE CHANGED BACK

User Generated Content and Property

Most of the images and content we put on Facebook is ours. I didn't steal the pictures of my holiday, I own them. Facebook should have no rights over my images and it certainly should not be allowed to use my pictures for whatever purpose it sees fit. What if my mug advertises a product I'm vehemently opposed to? What if that image comes back to haunt me in my future career?

Your Facebook account is free. Most of the content we upload we generate for free. I see photos of people, who never grated us permission post at all. Why should we, the people who post have more property rights over the content than the folks whose images we jack? This is a reactionary protest based on a antiquated notion of ownership.
