Malia and Sasha Obama have the busiest dad in the world: they will need their mother at this time. Not to mention the imminent assassination threat all presidents face. If she did keep her job, Michelle would have to travel back and forth to Chicago and surely this would not be practical. When we decide to bring children into this world, it is our responsibility to ensure their happiness and safety.

Michelle Obama would not be short of the best childcare in the country. Though she might feel guilty leaving her children to go to work, it is a shared responsibility and Barack will be far too busy to take care of Malia and Sasha. Surely, her daughters would understand if she explained why she really did not want to give up the job she had worked so hard for.
