Yes, because... Role model

During the presidential campaign, the whole world was bombarded with images of the ‘perfect family’. Barack Obama, well on his way to becoming the first black president, Michelle Obama, his loving and supportive wife and their two children, Malia and Sasha, behaving impeccably. Surely, this is the family we should all be aspiring too? No matter what anyone’s opinion is, children benefit more from having their parents at home and Michelle is a symbol for strong, stay-at-home mothers everywhere. In a world where family values are perhaps forgotten, marriages breaking down and children getting fatter, she represents the perfect role model for women everywhere.

When Sarah Palin was running in the Vice-Presidential slot in the republican party, many groups were angry at her for having a young child and running for office. While many people viewed her as an inspiration, the majority seemed to believe she wasn't making the right choices for her children.

But is Michelle assuming the role of the correct role model? Surely, she would be more inspirational for being a working mother, representing the women whose lives aren’t halted by the arrival of children? Obviously, she would have a lot of help and would not be ever suffer financial difficulties like other working mothers, but keeping her successful career would be an inspiration – more so than if she stayed at home and baked cookies.
