DEBATE: DOES YOUR ACCENT INDICATE YOUR INTELIGENCE?

This debate deals with the issue of social stratification based on one's accent/dialect. Are there really educated and "uneducated" accents?

DOES YOUR ACCENT INDICATE YOUR INTELIGENCE?

Is flat accent indicative of higher intelligence?

People with neutral accents often look down at people with thicker regional dialects.

The point opposite reflects prejudice held by people rather than an actual indicator of intelligence. What about the Scottish brogue accent which has been used by people with intelligence Menzies Campbell and Sean Connery. Also there are people who hold a strongly regional accent such as John Prescott who have a considerable amount of intelligence and hold senior positions
