Can Bulgarian Government Sort Out the Problems of Roma?

"When Boyko Borisov uttered the following words last week, in support of the Roma community in Bulgaria, they must have listened in disbelief ... "The Roma must break the vicious cycle of having someone else helping them and must exert their efforts". The personal example is really important. The problem is that no one has ever tried to integrate or control the Roma, like they have with their own citizens, just ignored them and now wonder why they are out of control and don't comply with any laws or respect the country they live in. Society is applying medieval conditions on these people and that's an indictment against all Europeans." - Keith Gregory in a letter to the Editor of Novinite.Com.

Can Bulgarian Government Sort Out the Problems of Roma?

Yes because... No because...

Bulgarian institutions will have to pay much more efforts

"It is a fact the problems of the Roma community in Bulgaria remain unresolved. Roma integration has been an issue in Bulgaria for a number of years but the programmes of the institutions are implemented slowly and do not have much effect ... It is clear that Bulgarian institutions will have to pay much more efforts for the successful inclusion of the Roma community, who still rely more on financial report from the state without being very cooperative to the integration processes." - Milka Dimitrova in the article on the Integration of Roma in Bulgaria.

While Bulgaria obviously could pay more if indeed they believe the Roma community are not very cooperative to the integration process then there is not much incentive to throw more money at a process that is not working. In such circumstances changing how things are done may be more productive than more money.

It should be noted that governments are not bottomless pits of money. The Bulgarian deficit is pretty small by European standards shrinking from 3.9% in 2010 to a projected 0.5% in 2014[[http://www.sofiaecho.com/2011/04/14/1074561_bulgarias-budget-deficit-seen-contracting-to-05per-cent-of-gdp-by-2014]] but this does not mean they can be throwing money around.

Yes because... No because...

We need from serious changes!

I am a Roma from Bulgaria and I am very scptic about the problem with our integration, because I think that it is very serious unsolvable. We-The Roma in Bulgaria need from leader that will be uncorrupted and interested in this problem. Here we have some Roma leaders which is not real leaders, because they can only to get the money for the programs and projects. Yes, the roma want only to stay at home and without work to gove them money but this is because our government tought them in this way. If we werent discriminated so many years, now the situation would be different. In our country the Roma dont have enough incentives to study. They think " Oh why I to study, I wont be a profesor" Because they know that can be discrimanated and agian to be cleaners... We need from some NGO that to work hardly and to change this way of thinking. We need someone whom to believe. We need from big change-change of the way we live! If I only can.. to make something, but I cant! In Bulgaria there is too much coruption!
