Cryptozoology is a study of science that we need
Cryptozoology is the study of animals that have not been proven or disproven to exist, such as the Loch Ness monster, or Bigfoot.

Animal(s) have had their existence by these studies
The Kraken, once an animal of folklore, had its existence proven by these studies as the giant squid. This means other animals who disputedly exist could be proven to exist, therefore, we need these studies.
The entire point of science is that it is based on observable and verifiable evidence though the use of the scientific method. If an animal currently cannot be prove to exist, then any claims made about it cannot even be counted as a theory, it is just speculation until evidence that can support the claim are discovered.
If Cryptozoology is treated as a field of science, then so should witchcraft. It is at best, a field in literary or cultural studies, but not in any way a science.
They tell us things about our culture and human psychology.
Such as the fact that so many different unrelated traditions have the concept of a dragon - is this because there was some large lizard-like thing that actually existed, or because of similarities in human psyche that make them terrified of a certain image, or a need for the same image in storytelling to convey an important message?
What is the point of this new subject?
There is a reson why we study. We study to increase our knowledge and learn the basic facts which run our world. We study rules in order to implement in our daily busy life. They say, that knowledge gained can never be lost which is a motivating saying because it questions our knowledge and encourages us to study more and be a knowledgeble person. But the point which is rather bizarre is that what is this cryptozoology. I am happy to learn about animals which exist in this world but it is a nuisance to get knowledge about mythical animals which are imagined on top of people's head. I can a create a ficitional animal but would it makes sense to study about it. We have little time in this world might as well utilize to do better and beneficial acts which can help us rather than studying stuff which hardly makes sense.
There could be benefit in studying to work out if that creature really does exist or how likely its existance is. If there is study and they do turn out to exist we will not be caught out. Since these animals if they exist must be very rare we need to be able to work out how to prevent their extinction, if they have not already gone extinct that is!
