I see what you're saying here but the revenue made by the olympics goes straight into the London economy and some British economy when you buy tickets/merchandise. The question is, however, whether it would be better to have pumped the £35bn into local councils and something that would have a higher short-term benefit to the taxpayers? I think it would be better to do this.

Even though 35 Billion is a lot of money think about all the boosts the economy will get from more people coming to see, more tourists, national new coverage, they are going to make a lot of money out of it.

Whether these things all truly good for a sustainable economy, and not one which is based on temporary influx of chaotically-spent money, remains to be seen however.
