SHOULD WE ACCEPT RACISM IS A PART OF FOOTBALL?
Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham fans have been calling Tottenham ‘Yids’ for decades. But racism and antisemitism persists in the lower leagues too. A Sunday FA Cup match ended in chaos after a player was sent off for protesting that he had been racially abused. MSFL Premier Division North West Neasden A are to be reported to the FA after players rounded on the referee for not taking action over striker Tony Keterman’s claim that he was called a “****** nosed ****”. It came on the same day another team playing non-Jewish opposition were subjected to racial abuse during a Herts Senior League game. Given that Spurs devotees called themselves the ‘Yid Army’, can racists abuse just be taken on the chin as light-hearted and meaningless banter, or does it encourage casual racism?
Should we accept racism is a part of football?
Yes, because... It's political correctness gone mad...
Tottenham fans have always called themselves the Yid Army, and people don't really know what the chant means any more. Where do you stop? Should we stop calling scousers chavs? or stop making fun of the french? or the poncy italians? is that racism? obviously there's a line that shouldn't be crossed but the spirit has left the grounds of so many clubs that lets not dampen the atmosphere even more...
Maybe we should! Look at all the racial slurs you have managed to create. And whilst the English may have accepted it as part of the norm of the game, many do not. Perhaps we are in the wrong for saying all these things based upon where people are from. Regardless of our intention, we are placing labels onto people because of where they come from. Surely, in life all that matters is who we are as people, in football, all that matters is how well we play. To slander someone because of where they come from, a factor beyond their control, is mindless and inconsiderate.

Should we accept racism is a part of football?
Yes, because... Part of the culture of the game
Such chants that sometimes involve minor racism are part of the culture of the game, obviously the racism involved should be minimised whenever possible but we don't want to destroy cultural traditions. Much of the time these chants are not meant offensively, when they are not then there should be no offence taken.
We must keep racism in order to keep up cultural tradition? Well should we go back to witch hunting? Slavery? Colonisation of weaker countries? But it is part of English tradition? The extreme examples used here show how ridiculous this argument is. We cannot keep something which is morally wrong and offensive in football because it is traditional! We the Brits maybe used to such banter and humour but others do not and they do take offence to our racial slurs. We should get rid of the lot in order to integrate multicultural Britain.

Should we accept racism is a part of football?
No, because... Racism isn't cool...any where.
The chants at some Tottenham games are just disgusting, 'spurs are on their way to belsen' 'hitler's missed a few' etc. Why is it still acceptable? The police and the ground staff say they have a zero tolerance for it but they let it happen. Also the referees should NEVER EVER accept it from the players it ruins it for everyone, i feel for this poor chap from Neasden it's a scandal he's been sent off for REPORTING abuse.
Point 1. It's political correctness gone mad...

Point 2. Part of the culture of the game
