DEBATE: HAITI WILL NEED TO BE OCCUPIED.

Haiti still has a government, however it is not a fully functioning sovering government. The government has been devistated like all other areas of life in Haiti, buildings including the presidential palace collapsed. As a country with poor government control at the best of times this is not the time or the place to be worried about soverignty. Instead Haiti should be occupied, either by the US or by the UN, to allow real control on the streets and the coordination of relief that is desperately needed.

HAITI WILL NEED TO BE OCCUPIED.

It's like the philippines and Guam all over again

Occupation of Haiti would spell the end of it's independence for the next 100 years at least. Ocupation is clearly taking advantage of Haiti's desparate situation, the island is already poor. They have already been through turmoil of shaking off colonialism, overcoming civil war and now this!!?? Suggesting occupation is an insult! Occupation will not speed up the aid effort or help the people, it will just make another poor nation become caught in the net of American financial loans.

What Haiti needs is fast relief, not occupation. Nobody could have cared less about Haiti before this devastation, they were living on less than1£ a day before, now they have nothing.

The key is to rebuild, relieve, heal, attend and then get out. Occupation never speeds up the process fom an LEDC to an MEDC it just means that they are finacially hooked to the USA, who will undoubtedly offer "help" even if the UN were the main occupants.

WE need to help Haiti, not take it's self governace away.
