DOES PHIL "THE POWER" TAYLOR DESERVE MORE RECOGNITION THAN HE CURRENTLY RECEIVES?
Phil Taylor has won 15 world titles, wins almost every match he plays and totally dominates his game in a way that almost no other sportsman does or ever has. However as Darts is not as high profile as games like football or tennis and is often seen as not really being a sport he is often ignored. He does not get the accolades he deserves as a sporting great.
Does Phil "The Power" Taylor deserve more recognition than he currently receives?
Yes, because... Taylor's dominance of darts is clearly marked.
Taylor currently holds 15 World Darts titles, of which 8 were won consecutively between 1995 and 2002. He has also appeared in 14 consecutive world finals from 1994- 2007, with 17 in total throughout his career. However, it is not just his ability to win key matches that sets him apart from other players. Taylor also holds key average records including the highest ever televised three dart average of 116.01. In the most recent world championships, he continued to push the boundaries of the sport setting the highest ever world championship average for an entire tournament with 104.63. With these records, it is clear that Taylor is not only the dominant world champion, but the greatest player to have thrown a dart.

Does Phil "The Power" Taylor deserve more recognition than he currently receives?
Yes, because... Taylor has not been given the same level of recognition as other British sporting greats.
If you compare Taylor's achievements in darts against other British sporting champions, he has not received the anywhere near the same recognition. Both Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button have recently received MBE's for the winning the Formula One drivers championships. Both were awarded the honours in the months following their crowning as the best drivers in the world for that season. However, Taylor has yet to receive any honours for his exploits in darts. His omissions become all the more unjust when you compare Taylor's success in Darts against Hamilton and Button's success in F1. The dominance Taylor has had over the sport is more impressive than what Michael Schumacher enjoyed from 2000-4. Many regard Schumacher as the greatest driver of all time due to his 7 world titles. This injustice is startling when you consider Taylor has just won his 15th world title.

Does Phil "The Power" Taylor deserve more recognition than he currently receives?
Yes, because... Darts is played nationally; give him the recognition he deserves!
He is easily the best player in a commonly-played sport at the moment, so why not give him the recognition he deserves?
Does Phil "The Power" Taylor deserve more recognition than he currently receives?
No, because... Darts is currently split between two governing bodies producing separate world championships.
The general consensus in the Darts community is that the PDC hosts the superior championships. From when it was formed, the PDC took the majority of the world's best players, a view which is still roughly held. However, Raymond van Barneveld beat Taylor in the 2007 final of the PDC world championship in his first world championship since crossing over from the BDO. The Canadian player, John Part, has also won the PDC championship twice since crossing over from the BDO. Although Taylor has been beaten by both of these players, he has still won more PDC world championships than the two combined whilst they have participated in the PDC competition.
It should also be noted that there is a general migration of players from the BDO tournaments over to the PDC. This is driven by the vastly greater prize winnings offered by the more commercial PDC championships. Moreover, given Taylor's record in the PDC tournaments, he has proved completely dominant winning 12 out of the 16 PDC world championships. Also, Taylor's record averages are still far greater than that of anyone playing in the BDO, proving statistically that Taylor is still the world's best.
A large group of players broke away from the British Darts Organisation (BDO) in 1992. They formed the rival Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), taking all the former and current world champions with them. Since then, there have been two separate world darts championships played each year with the BDO's tournament hosted by the BBC and the PDC's broadcast by Sky. Due to the acrimony between the organisations, players will only play in the tournaments hosted by their affiliated governing body. Therefore, the overall competition is split creating two different world champions. Therefore Taylor's progress through the PDC world championship is made easier because he doesn't have to face the talent that is playing in the BDO's championships.
