The reunion of Northern Ireland into the Republic of Ireland would not reignite the hostilities of the past unless the hostilities are created by British entities. The primary entities currently causing the violence now are acting against the larger British entities who make it impossible to compete fairly in a non-violent way. Saying that entities, like the IRA, are terrorist organizations is purely an action taken because they have not won their fight. The American colonies fought against the tyranny of the British and would have been equally titled terrorists or similar at the time by the British government, but since they won their war against Britain, like MANY other countries had to, they are viewed as strong and deserving of the sovereignty they hold over their land. Why are actions that are taken by non-government entities in the pursuit of their own independence or defense titled Terrorism, when governments can take similar, or more intense, actions that are simply handled as excessive or harsh? The definition of terrorism is 'the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion'. The actions taken by the British forces on Bloody Sunday would fall under that category. The union of the Irish Island under the sovereignty of one government would end the violence in the region as well as support the unity of the island. It would also bring closer ties between the Irish and British people, this time as two respectful populations rather than one tyrannical one forcing it on the other.
